Miami Marlins pitcher Cody Poteet (elbow) has been transferred to the 60-day injured list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old has had multiple stints on the IL this season while dealing with elbow inflammation. Poteet has a 3.86 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 21:11 K/BB ratio across 28 innings (two starts) on the year.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller

Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. In a corresponding move, the Orioles optioned pitching prospect Brandon Young to Triple-A. Young made his MLB debut on Saturday and allowed seven hits and three runs across four innings of work. Poteet joined Baltimore in March via a trade from the Chicago Cubs. Last summer, Poteet logged 24 1/3 innings with the New York Yankees and held a 2.22 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP. He struck out 16 batters and was deployed out of both the rotation and the bullpen. Fantasy managers should expect Poteet to likely operate out of the bullpen, but he could be given a few spot starts in Baltimore. Through 83 career innings in the major leagues, Poteet has posted a 3.80 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired pitcher Cody Poteet from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash. Poteet was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk after the swap was made. The 30-year-old was in camp with the Cubs but did not make the Opening Day roster and had been with Triple-A Iowa to begin the year. The righty spent the 2024 campaign with the New York Yankees and held a 2.22 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP across 24 1/3 innings, working as both a reliever and as a starter. He'll probably be one of the first names called when the Orioles need help out of the bullpen or a spot start, but isn't on the fantasy radar at this point.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

The Chicago Cubs optioned pitchers Cody Poteet, Caleb Kilian, Jack Neely, and Gavin Hollowell to Triple-A on Saturday. Poteet spent the 2024 campaign with the New York Yankees and held a 2.22 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP across 24 1/3 innings. Kilian is a former well-regarded prospect but has struggled through his brief taste of the majors as he posted a high 9.22 ERA with a 2.01 WHIP across 27 1/3 innings. Neely made his MLB debut last summer and held a 9.00 ERA with a 1.67 WHIP across his first six MLB frames. Hollowell began his MLB career in Colorado and only logged one 1/3 innings with the Cubs last season. This transaction should provide Chris Flexen and Nate Pearson a good opportunity to make the Opening Day roster, who both signed a contract with the Cubs in the offseason.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Chicago Cubs right-hander Cody Poteet, who was acquired in the offseason trade with the New York Yankees that involved outfielder Cody Bellinger, is slated to start the team's Cactus League opener on Thursday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pitchers Brad Keller, Daniel Palencia, Jack Neely and Brooks Kriske are scheduled to appear in Thursday's game for Chicago. Poteet, 30, appeared in only five games (four starts) for the Yankees in 2024 and allowed seven runs (six earned) on 18 hits (two home runs) while walking eight and striking out 16 in 24 1/3 innings pitched. Barring injuries to other Cubs pitchers, Poteet will likely open the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Iowa. Poteet has a 3.80 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with a 69:35 K:BB in 83 big-league innings over 24 outings (13 starts) in three MLB seasons since debuting with the Marlins in 2021. He's off the fantasy radar altogether.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
