3 years agoKansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) was able to log a full practice session Wednesday, a huge positive when it comes to a potential return to action for Sunday's game. Jerick McKinnon served as the team's RB1 during its Wild Card Round victory, a role that he would likely cede to Edwards-Helaire should he ultimately receive the green light to suit up. Injuries limited the second-year back to just 10 games during the regular season, but he averaged 11.9 carries per outing when healthy. While Patrick Mahomes and his explosive pass-catching weapons garner most of the DFS appeal, Edwards-Helaire finished the year with four rushing scores in his last five games, a glimpse into the upside he possesses amidst Kansas City's multi-faceted offense.--Jesse Borek

2 months agoNew Orleans Saints running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire needed all of 26 rushing yards to lead the team in the category in Sunday's 27-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He added another 14 yards on his only catch of the game. With Alvin Kamara (groin) and Kendre Miller (concussion) sidelined for the season finale, backfield reps were split up among Edwards-Helaire, Jamaal Williams, and Jordan Mims. Williams got the start and out-snapped Edwards-Helaire 24-18, but the backs drew an equal share of carries out of the backfield. The Saints signed the Louisiana native and LSU alum in mid-December after he was released from the Chiefs. Inactive for all of 2024 save the last two games of the Saints' schedule, Edwards-Helaire finishes the year with 46 rushing yards on 13 carries and three receptions for 24 yards. In his previous four years in Kansas City, he had 1,845 rushing yards and 745 receiving.--Dan Stephens - RotoBaller

2 months agoNew Orleans Saints running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire will be active on Sunday, according to interim head coach Darren Rizzi. With Kendre Miller (concussion) out and Alvin Kamara (groin) doubtful, Edwards-Helaire should factor into the run game alongside Jamaal Williams as he did in Week 17. Last week, CEH led the team in rushing attempts with five after Miller was forced out of the game in the second quarter due to his head injury. In comments to the media on Friday, Rizzi complimented Edwards-Helaire's ability to learn the offense so quickly and said that he was impressed with his work ethic and determination. With CEH having joined New Orleans only two weeks ago and Williams being largely ineffective as a rusher this season, it is hard to say who will emerge as the primary back in Week 18's matchup against the Buccaneers. Jordan Mims may also mix in, making all three backs easy fades in fantasy.--Dan Stephens - RotoBaller

3 months agoNew Orleans Saints running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire led the team in carries in Sunday's loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Edwards-Helaire needed just five rushing attempts to accomplish the feat in a game where New Orleans all but abandoned the ground game, calling just four run plays in the entire second half. He finished with five carries for 20 yards and caught two of his four targets for 10 receiving yards. Cut by the Chiefs on December 16 and claimed by the Saints two days later, New Orleans elevated the four-year veteran from the practice squad on Saturday after listing Alvin Kamara (groin) out the day before. CEH was involved nearly as much as starter Kendre Miller (head) before Miller left the game in the second quarter due to a possible concussion. Up to that point, Edwards-Helaire had seen five snaps to Miller's seven and three touches to Miller's four. If Miller is forced to miss Week 18 and Kamara doesn't return for a meaningless season finale, Edwards-Helaire could draw the start against the Buccaneers.--Dan Stephens - RotoBaller

3 months agoAccording to Nick Underhill of the New Orleans Football Network, the New Orleans Saints have signed free agent running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Edwards-Helaire was released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday. The 25-year-old did not play in a game this season as he was on the non-football injury list for most of the first half. Last season, the former first-round selection tallied 223 yards and one rushing score. His best season in Kansas City was his rookie campaign, where he ran for 803 yards on 181 attempts and added 297 yards on 36 receptions with five total scores. With Alvin Kamara (groin) leaving last weekend's game early, Edwards-Helaire brings a reliable depth option to the room. However, if Kamara were to miss time, Kendre Miller should be expected to see a majority of the opportunities.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller
