Clayton Richard Officially Named Opening Day Starter
7 years agoAs many have speculated, the San Diego Padres have officially announced that starting pitcher Clayton Richard will be their Opening Day starter, according to MLB.com beat reporter AJ Cassavell. Richard will take the mound on March 29 at Petco Park against the Milwaukee Brewers. Last year, he compiled an 8-15 record with a 4.79 ERA over 32 starts, but he also had a career-best 6.9 K/9. Richard shouldn't be owned in any 10- or 12-team mixed leagues, and he shouldn't be seen as anything more than a potential streaming option in NL-only leagues depending on the matchup and if he is pitching at Petco. With the new-and-improved Brewers lineup featuring outfielders Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain coming to town, fantasy owners should leave Richard on the bench or waiver wire and just watch the incoming train wreck from afar.
