Clayton Richard Kicks Off 2018 with Quality Start on Opening Day for Padres
7 years agoMaking the start on Opening Day for the first time of his career, San Diego Padres starting pitcher Clayton Richard stifled the Milwaukee Brewers revamped offense, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over seven innings of work. Richard was pinch hit for by outfielder Hunter Renfroe in the bottom of the seventh, who proceeded to strike out swinging to end the inning, leaving two runners on base. Richard looked good on the mound with four strikeouts, and the only run he surrendered came on a bloop single to left that dropped just short of left fielder Jose Pirela. At the time Richard left the game, he was in line for the loss with Milwaukee leading 1-0, but this start was a good way to begin the season, and if he continues to throw like this, he could become an interesting streaming option throughout the year, mainly while at home at Petco Park.
