Christopher Bell Pushes Through For A Talladega Top-10 Finish
1 month agoJoe Gibbs Racing's Christopher Bell finished sixth during Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Originally scored from the 21st position at the start, Bell immediately dealt with a setback after he had to do a pass-through penalty after the first green flag due to unapproved adjustments made by his team before the race. Fortunately for Bell, the race's first caution came out on lap 13, and he never lost a lap. The No. 20 Toyota driver spent the rest of the stage progressing through the field and made it up to fifth by the end of the first stage, scoring stage points. In the second stage, Bell avoided trouble but got mired back in the pack after green flag pit stops and couldn't recover. He would end the second stage in the 28th position. In the final stage, Bell kept up with the field even through green flag pit stops before being involved in the biggest crash of the race on lap 185. Despite his involvement, Bell was able to continue, and during the race's final green flag run, Bell placed inside the Top 10, leading to his third career top-10 finish at Talladega and 19th overall for the 2024 season. With 57 points above the playoff cutoff line, Bell is all but confirmed to advance to the Round of 8 in the playoffs after the Charlotte Roval.
