Christian Villanueva Homers In Third Straight Game
7 years agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Christian Villanueva went yard for a third consecutive game on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Villanueva socked a two-run homer off of Hyun-jin Ryu in the second inning and finished 3-for-4. An unknown before 2018, Villanueva has firmly usurped scuffling third baseman Chase Headley at the hot corner and is slashing a very impressive .333/.423/.822 with six homers and 13 RBI. After Monday, he leads all major league rookies in average, OPS, home runs and RBI and also has a 1.939 OPS against left-handed pitching. Owners may be skeptical of a breakout at 26 years old, but Villanueva did hit four dingers in only 32 plate appearances during his debut last season. Currently one of baseball's hottest hitters, Villanueva is a recommended add in 12-team leagues and a must-start versus southpaws until he cools off.
