7 years agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Christian Villanueva will play first base Friday as he fights for a roster spot. The Padres third baseman was also recently linked to taking repetitions at shortstop. His versatility could supplement a bat that's hitting .435 with three homers and 11 RBI in 23 spring at-bats (1.465 OPS). If he makes the team and mans all three positions, he'll back up Chase Headley at third, Freddy Galvis at short and Eric Hosmer at first. Villanueva slashed .296/.369/.528 with 20 dingers and 86 RBI in 109 games in Triple-A last year and hammered four home runs in 32 brief plate appearances as a Padre last September.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
