Chris Young Granted Release From Padres
7 years agoSan Diego Padres pitcher Chris Young requested and was granted his release by the Padres after it was unlikely he was going to make the team due to 40-man roster issues. The Padres had been looking at Young as fitting into a long-relief role on the team after he posted a 7.53 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 14 1/3 innings this spring. Young could end up with a deal somewhere else this season, and his 9.4 K/9 could potentially make him an interesting waiver wire pickup, but at this point he will be 39 this year and he has not looked the same since his 2013 thoracic outlet surgery. There's really no reason he should be owned at all in any format.
