Chris Tanev Dealt From Flames To Stars
9 months agoThe Calgary Flames have traded defenseman Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars in what is a three-team deal that also includes the New Jersey Devils. The Flames will receive the Stars' 2024 second-round pick, a conditional third-round pick in 2026, and defensive prospect Artem Grushnikov. The Flames are retaining 50% of Tanev's cap hit and the Devils are covering another 25%. In exchange for retaining salary, the Stars gave New Jersey a 2026 fourth-round pick while receiving the rights to goaltender Cole Brady. Tanev, 34, has recorded one goal and 14 points on the season but is much more valued for his defensive play. His 171 blocked shots are the second-most in the NHL and he is a plus-14 on a Flames team boasting a plus-one goal differential.
