Chris Sale Dealt With Illness Before Last Start
6 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that starting pitcher Chris Sale's diminished velocity in his last start was largely due to the fact that he was dealing with a stomach bug entering that outing. The left-hander wasn't able to throw on the side between his first and second starts. The velocity has been down in both of Sale's first two starts, but he allowed just one run in six innings in the loss to the A's the last time out. He's struck out just five hitters with four walks in his nine innings so far, very un-Sale-like numbers. He took most of the spring off, though, as the Red Sox are conscious of limiting his innings this year. Sale should get back on track eventually if he's healthy, and his matchup on Tuesday against Toronto would be a good place to start.
