Chris Owings DFA'd, Cheslor Cuthbert Brought Up
5 years agoThe Kansas City Royals designated infielder/outfielder Chris Owings for assignment on Friday and called up third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. Owings was bad with KC in his 135 at-bats, hitting .133/.193/.222 with two homers, nine runs, nine RBI and four stolen bases. Cuthbert will take his spot as the utility infielder after hitting a solid .310/.370/.528 with eight home runs and 35 RBI in 51 games for Omaha this year. He's a career .252 hitter with 18 homers and 79 RBI in his 767 major league at-bats, so he'll only be a consideration in AL-only leagues. With Hunter Dozier (chest) banged up, Cuthbert could see some playing time right away.
