Chris Martin Agrees With Red Sox
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox agreed to a two-year, $17.5 million deal with right-handed reliever Chris Martin on Friday, pending a physical, according to sources familiar with the deal. The 36-year-old was excellent for the Los Angeles Dodgers after a deadline trade and parlayed that performance into a multi-year deal on the open market this offseason. He began the 2022 campaign with the Chicago Cubs and had a 4.31 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 31 1/3 relief innings before joining the Dodgers in the second half. With LA, he allowed just four earned runs on 12 hits while walking one and striking out 34 hitters in 24 2/3 innings. Martin will look to help a Boston bullpen that was pretty bad last season, and he should pitch in high-leverage situations.
