Chris Godwin Likely To Be Franchise Tagged By Buccaneers
4 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is likely to be franchise tagged by the team this offseason. The team wants Godwin back- and he wants to return, though he made it clear that he is seeking a long-term payday. The window to tag players opened on Tuesday, but the Buccaneers will likely work towards an extension first before utilizing the more team-friendly $15.8 million tag. Even if Godwin is tagged, the two sides can continue to work on a long-term agreement up until mid-July. The 24-year-old wideout was a Pro Bowler in 2019- and while he took a step back in 2020 due to injuries, he was still Tom Brady's favorite target when on the field, as evidenced by his 7.2 targets per game in the regular season and playoffs combined, the best of any Bucs' pass-catcher.
