Chris Buescher More Likely to Focus On Points Than Winning at Richmond
3 months agoChris Buescher starts seventh at Richmond this weekend, tying for his best career start at the track. While Richmond was not one of his best tracks with the Gen-6 chassis, he has been quite fast in the last two summer races in the Next Gen era. Buescher won last year's race despite qualifying 26th, his worst starting position there since his rookie season. He also finished third in the 2022 summer race and ninth in the spring. However, he has tended to run better at Richmond when he qualifies worse, probably because his team has recently focused on strategy more than speed, and usually the worse qualifiers have more freedom to implement aggressive strategies. The combination of Buescher's strong qualifying and precarious points position probably means they will drive a conservative race with more of a focus on maximizing points than winning. As a result, a top-10 finish with some Stage points seems likely.
