Chase Elliott’s Injury May Change His Strategy At Martinsville
2 years agoNASCAR's most popular driver, Chase Elliott, will be making his long-awaited return to the race track this weekend at Martinsville Speedway after missing six straight races due to a broken leg earlier this year. Now Chase has to put that recently repaired leg to the test at one of the toughest tracks and situations on the schedule: 400 laps at the half-mile Martinsville Speedway. However, Elliott is very strong at this race track, finishing 1st or 2nd in each of the last six Stages here, so that should help lessen the burden a little bit. With that being said, the question of the Playoffs now has to linger in this #9 team's mind, as they're essentially in a win-to-get-in situation after the six-race setback. When asked if this will change Chase's strategy moving forward, he stated, "I don't think I really change my approach. Does that change how we call races from a strategic standpoint? Yeah, you know, it probably does. But does it change how I drive or how I want the car to be set up for the weekend? No." Elliott and his #9 Chevrolet will start Sunday's NOCO 400 from 24th place.
