Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott captured his first career Cup Series championship by winning Sunday's Season Finale 500 at Phoenix Raceway. Elliott's day got off to an inauspicious start, as the No. 9 car failed pre-race inspection twice, forcing him to start at the rear of the field. Once the green flag dropped, that didn't matter at all as Elliott stormed through the pack. By the end of the first stage, Elliott had gotten to third, and he would soon dominate the second half of the race. Elliott led a total of 153 of the 312 laps and passed Joey Logano to take the lead, for the final time, with 43 laps to go. The win was Elliott's fifth of the season, and second straight, as his win at Martinsville got him into the championship race.--John Pitucci - RotoBaller
