Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott started from the eighth position and won Sunday's Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Elliott would not be denied on this day, leading 236 of 500 laps, and clinching a spot in the championship race, next week at Phoenix. Elliott's day was not without some adversity as his No. 9 pit crew struggled on a couple of stops and was almost penalized for going over the wall too soon. Elliott took over the lead from Martin Truex Jr. with 44 laps to go and ran away from the field as the race went green to the finish. The win was Elliott's fourth of the season, a career-high, and next week will be his first chance to race for the Cup Series championship.--John Pitucci - RotoBaller
