Chase Burns Expected To Start At High-A Dayton
3 days agoPer MLB.com's Brendan Samson, Cincinnati Reds right-handed pitching prospect Chase Burns is expected to start the 2025 season at High-A Dayton. The Reds selected Burns with the second overall selection in last year's draft out of Wake Forest, but he didn't pitch anywhere in the minors last summer. The hard-throwing 22-year-old Italian native threw one inning in relief in a Cactus League game in spring training and walked a batter while striking out the side. Burns, who regularly hits triple digits on the radar gun with his fastball, is expected to be a fast riser through Cincy's minor-league system and is already ranked as their top prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. It shouldn't be long before Burns is pitching in the upper levels of the minors in 2025, and he has a chance to make his MLB debut later this year thanks to his fastball-slider combination that generates plenty of whiffs.
