9 months agoChase Briscoe was one of the slower qualifiers on the Stewart-Haas Racing team. His Saturday effort has Briscoe starting 19th for Sunday afternoon's Ally 400. Nashville has not been kind to the No. 14 Ford. His average start has been 20.7 over the last three years. Worse, he has finished between 31st and 34th since 2021. With conditions on the track remaining the same, the results may be much the same. From a DFS perspective, Briscoe's Ford figures to lose tenths per second on longer runs which would impact those aspirations negatively. --Chris Wassel - RotoBaller

6 days agoAlthough Chase Briscoe qualified fourth for Sunday's Homestead race (higher than any of his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates), a lot of people had rather low expectations given his history of struggling on intermediates for Stewart-Haas Racing. However, JGR is a lot faster than SHR on those tracks, and he had a lot more staying power than most people expected since he also finished fourth. He faded from view in Stage 2 after a slow pit stop but gradually worked his way through the field and he made a strong charge from eighth to third in the latter portions of Stage 3 and even came close to passing then-leaders Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman before Kyle Larson ended up passing all three of them. The race really improved his playoff position, as he rose from 20th to 13th in points and is now above the playoff cut line.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller

1 week agoAfter a promising fourth-place finish in the season-opening Daytona 500, it has been a bit of a struggle for Chase Briscoe and his new No. 19 team at Joe Gibbs Racing, as they haven't finished better than 14th in the month of racing since then. This week at Homestead, though, there appears to be a little hope, as Briscoe qualified fourth for the Straight Talk Wireless 400 on Sunday. This qualifying effort wasn't a fluke, either, as the No. 19 Toyota was sixth-fastest in practice as well. As far as track record goes, Briscoe has struggled at Homestead-Miami Speedway, with zero top-10 finishes in four career starts at the track. His 12th-place effort here last fall has been his best thus far. Expectations-wise, it's hard to trust Briscoe and his new team this weekend, especially considering he's still getting used to how the Toyotas drive. At $8,400 on DraftKings, you should probably use him sparingly (if at all) with your DFS lineups this weekend. --Jordan McAbee

2 weeks agoChase Briscoe was typically very slow in his previous races at Las Vegas, with a fourth place in the 2022 fall event serving as his sole highlight, but even in that race he only had an average running position of 17th. Admittedly, a large part of that was the fact that the Stewart-Haas Racing cars tended to badly struggle on intermediates after 2020. Now Briscoe is driving for a Joe Gibbs Racing team that is traditionally much faster on them, but it didn't seem to help much as he still qualified only 24th and perhaps surprisingly, none of the JGR cars placed in the top ten. Briscoe is one of the biggest question marks for this race since he'll likely run better for JGR than SHR in theory but James Small isn't a great crew chief and bad luck continues to follow the No. 19 car whever it goes. Briscoe is likely too overpriced at $8,500 to be very valuable.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoChase Briscoe got the reprieve of a lifetime when his 100 point penalty at the Daytona 500 was rescinded last Wednesday. On paper, Briscoe should be extremely valuable for DFS lineups since he is starting 30th (worse than he has ever qualified here) but he has also earned top tens in four of his ten Phoenix starts including winning the first Next Gen race here in 2022 for a rapidly declining Stewart-Haas Racing team. Considering the Toyotas led almost all of last year's event here, with Briscoe's predecessor Martin Truex, Jr. leading 55 laps in the winter and winning the pole in the fall, Briscoe seems like he should be a very strong contender for a top ten, but the qualifying is puzzling. Normally the expected position gain would be enough to start him for DFS, but he also seems potentially overvalued at $9,000, so it's an iffy proposition.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
