Chas McCormick Comes Off Injured List And Goes Hitless
2 years agoThe Houston Astros activated outfielder Chas McCormick (back) from the 10-day injured list on Monday and optioned third baseman Rylan Bannon to Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. McCormick was immediately in the starting lineup in center field while batting seventh against the Los Angeles Angels, but he finished 0-for-4 in the contest with one strikeout in the 6-4 loss. The 28-year-old missed almost a month with a back strain, so he may be slow to get going again at the plate. It also might take him a bit to get back near the top of the batting order, but McCormick should see most of the starts in center field. Before his injury, he was hitting .275 (11-for-40) with three doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and four stolen bases in just 11 games.

Chas McCormick Won't Return This Week
6 months agoHouston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick (hand) will not accompany the team to Cleveland for their series this weekend against the Guardians to close out the regular season, according to manager Joe Espada. McCormick will stay in Houston to work with the team's doctors and training staff. He will take live at-bats and will hope to be included on the team's roster for the first round of the playoffs, which begins next week. The 29-year-old outfielder has been sidelined since the middle of September, when he fractured his right hand. He had been hot at the plate before his injury, but overall this year, McCormick has struggled to a .211/.271/.306 slash line with only five homers, 27 RBI and eight stolen bases in 242 at-bats. With Yordan Alvarez (knee) nursing a right-knee sprain, Jason Heyward is benefitting from regular playing time to close out the season in Houston's outfield.

Chas McCormick To Swing A Bat On Monday
6 months agoHouston Astros general manager Dana Brown said on KBME-AM in Houston on Sunday that outfielder Chas McCormick (hand) will start swinging a bat on Monday with the hope that he can return for the final weekend of the regular season against the Cleveland Guardians. McCormick suffered a small fracture in his right hand on Sept. 10 while chasing a fly ball in Houston and crashing into the outfield wall. He said the fracture is on a bone just below his index finger. Barring a setback, though, the Astros should have McCormick available for the postseason in October, although he's unlikely to have a big role. Before his injury, he had started seven games in a row and was 9-for-23. It came after the 29-year-old struggled for much of the year and was sent to Triple-A Sugar Land. McCormick has hit .211/.271/.306 with a career-worst .576 OPS, five homers, 27 RBI and eight steals in 94 games in 2024.

Chas McCormick Going On Injured List With Fractured Hand
7 months agoHouston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick (hand) will land on the 10-day injured list after being diagnosed with a fractured right hand, according to manager Joe Espada. McCormick suffered the hand injured when he crashed into the outfield wall during Tuesday's game against the division-rival Oakland Athletics. With only several weeks left in the 2024 regular season, the 29-year-old will miss the rest of September and can only hope he can recover in time if the Astros make a deep run in the playoffs. Ben Gamel and Jason Heyward stand to benefit the most, especially as the Astros ease Kyle Tucker back in at DH following a lengthy IL stint. McCormick is having his worst big-league season, slashing only .211/.271/.306 with five homers, 27 RBI and eight steals in a career-low 94 games as a bench outfielder for Houston in 2024.

Jake Meyers Goes On Paternity List, Chas McCormick Back Up
7 months agoThe Houston Astros placed outfielder Jake Meyers on the paternity list on Monday and recalled outfielder Chas McCormick from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Meyers will most likely be away from the team for the next three days while he attends to family matters, so fantasy managers probably won't have him available for the entire three-game series in Cincinnati against the Reds this week. McCormick, 29, might get a little run in center field at Great American Ball Park this week with Meyers out, but once Meyers returns, he'll return to being a bench bat, at best. The former 21st-round pick in 2017 out of Millersville University of Pennsylvania has hit just .192/.256/.292 with a .548 OPS, five home runs, 24 RBI and eight steals in 219 at-bats in 2024. With Kyle Tucker (shin) on the verge of a return, too, there's just no opening for consistent playing time for the struggling McCormick.
