Charlie Blackmon Not In Sunday's Lineup
4 years agoColorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon is on the bench on Sunday. The Rockies will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks and right-handed starter Taylor Widener but will do so without one of their best hitters. Blackmon is batting .276 with a .356 on-base percentage, nine home runs, and a pair of stolen bases in 450 plate appearances this season. Sam Hilliard is starting in right field in Blackmon's place and batting sixth. The 27-year-old is batting .209 with a .278 on-base percentage, eight home runs, and a stolen base in 126 plate appearances. The home run power is certainly encouraging, but Hilliard is also striking out 37.3% of the time. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for a streaming option in the outfield.

Ryan McMahon, Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Jones Out On Wednesday
6 months agoColorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon and outfielders Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Jones are all out of the lineup for Wednesday's series finale at Coors Field against the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on the bump. Aaron Schunk will start at third and hit out of the nine-hole, Sam Hilliard will start in left and bat seventh, and catcher Jacob Stallings will be the designated hitter and bat fifth. Hunter Goodman is catching and hitting sixth. Hilliard has hit .250 (27-for-108) in his return to the Rockies this year with eight homers and 23 RBI in 49 games played. Stallings has hit .260 (59-for-227) with a career-high nine homers in 76 games, and Schunk has hit just .194 (14-for-72) with one homer and three RBI in his first 32 big-league games. None of Colorado's replacements are particularly attractive DFS sleepers, even at Coors Field.

Charlie Blackmon Absent Against Yankees
7 months agoColorado Rockies outfielder/designated hitter Charlie Blackmon will take a seat for Friday's series opener in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium against the New York Yankees with left-hander Carlos Rodon on the bump. It's the second straight game that Blackmon has started on the bench with a lefty on the mound. Brendan Rodgers will serve as the DH and hit second, while Aaron Schunk will handle the keystone and hit ninth for the Rockies. Rodgers will attempt to turn things around against Rodon, who he has hit .143 against in seven career at-bats. Schunk has never faced Rodon. The 38-year-old Blackmon has actually hit .271 (23-for-85) against lefties in 2024, but with only one of his eight round-trippers. Blackmon has also struggled in August as he continues to decline offensively, going 11-for-52 (.212) with a homer, five RBI and eight strikeouts in 13 games played.

Charlie Blackmon, Jake Cave Sitting Against Lefty
8 months agoColorado Rockies outfielders Charlie Blackmon and Jake Cave will head to the bench on Wednesday in the series finale against the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field with a left-handed pitcher on the mound. Hunter Goodman is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth, rookie Jordan Beck is in left and hitting seventh, and Sam Hilliard draws the start in right and is in the eight-hole against D-backs lefty Jordan Montgomery. Blackmon hasn't been terrible against southpaws this year, hitting .267 (20-for-75), but only one of his seven home runs on the year have come against them. Goodman is hitting just .182 (28-for-154) in his second year in the big leagues, but he has some DFS sleeper appeal because of his power (eight homers in 53 games).

Charlie Blackmon Returning On Tuesday
8 months agoColorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon (eye) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the New York Mets. The veteran slugger was forced to miss two games due to a left eye bruise he suffered on Friday. Luckily, it was a minor issue that only forced him to miss a few games. Blackmon will serve as the designated hitter and bat leadoff against right-hander Luis Severino on Tuesday.
