Cesar Valdez Shuts Door For Seventh Save Monday
4 years agoBaltimore Orioles closer Cesar Valdez pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts to secure the 5-3 win on Monday against the Mariners. The 36-year-old has been quite the fantasy oddity this season. He has converted seven of nine save opportunities with a 1.32 ERA and a 26.8% strikeout rate while relying heavily on a changeup. At this point in the season, fantasy managers should be buying into Valdez. While the O's starters may not position them for wins or saves all the time, Valdez has been good enough to make himself an above-average fantasy closer.
