Cesar Valdez Blows Second Save Of Season Thursday
4 years agoBaltimore Orioles closer Cesar Valdez did not convert the save in Thursday's 4-3 extra-innings win over the Yankees. Valdez entered to pitch the ninth inning up by a run. He alternated two walks and two strikeouts before allowing a game-tying double to Gleyber Torres before getting the third out. Valdez's final line was one run allowed on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts. Fortunately, the O's were able to win the game in the 10th inning, so his blown save did not cost his team. Despite this outing, Valdez has done a great job shutting down games for the O's, converting five of seven saves with a 1.54 ERA and a 10.03 K/9 rate. While it is still a bit hard to believe given his career numbers, the fact remains that Valdez has been a higher-end fantasy closer to this point.
