Cesar Hernandez Played Through Broken Foot Last Year
6 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies second baseman Cesar Hernandez (foot) played through a broken foot for most of the second half of last season after he fouled a pitch off his foot in July. General manager Matt Klentak said Hernandez didn't require surgery and that the bone healed on its own. It helps explain why Hernandez had a putrid second half in 2018. He finished with a .253/.356/.362 slash line, 15 home runs, 60 RBI, 91 runs scored and 19 stolen bases for the Phils in 605 at-bats. The switch-hitter doesn't have much of a future in Philadelphia but could still be a valuable middle infielder for another club if he's traded. Hernandez's value in deep mixed and NL-only leagues will depend on how much playing time he gets in 2019.
