Boston Red Sox reliever Carson Smith (shoulder) received a second opinion from Dr. Altchek on Monday, according to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe. Evidently it was not the news he had hoped to receive as now Smith wants a third opinion. This next opinion is requested to determine if surgery is necessary. Smith injured the shoulder while in the dugout throwing his glove in frustration. Now he is expected to miss an extended amount of time with surgery and/or recovery. This negatively affects what was already considered a weakness of the Red Sox pitching staff.--Ellis Canady - RotoBaller
