Carson Hocevar has been a pleasant surprise in the NASCAR Cup Series this season, as he has piloted the No. 42 Chevrolet to four top-20 finishes in just six attempts thus far. When you consider that that car only has seven top-20 results all season long, that is pretty impressive. However, a driver can't be strong everywhere, and it appears that Carson Hocevar is struggling at Martinsville Speedway this weekend. In addition to posting just the 27th-fastest lap in practice on Saturday, Hocevar went out and qualified in 32nd-place (out of 36 cars) for this weekend's Xfinity 500. When you consider how difficult it is to pass at Martinsville, Sunday could end up being a very long day for the No. 42 Legacy Motor Club team. Another top-20 finish is likely out of reach for Hocevar, at least this weekend.--Jordan McAbee

Carson Hocevar of Spire Motorsports will start ninth for Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Hocevar is the top qualifier of the three Spire entries in this week's Cup race at Bristol. In three Cup starts at the site, Hocevar has two top-20 finishes, a best finish of 11th, and scored positive place differential twice. After eight races so far in the 2025 season, Hocevar has three top-20 finishes, with only one inside the top 10. In practice, Hocevar ranked eighth in overall lap averages and displayed top-10 speeds in the five and 10 consecutive lap average categories. Due to his low upside, it is difficult to recommend Hocevar for any lineup outside of tournament lineups, especially when his overall 2025 performance so far has been lackluster.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

Although Carson Hocevar failed to replicate his second-place starting position from last year's Southern 500, his 13th-place starting position on Sunday is still pretty solid, and the speed he had last year suggests there is a chance he will have speed on Sunday, even though he fell off quickly and failed to score any stage points in that race. Although Darlington is a finesse track and Hocevar is not a finesse driver, he usually does get away with his overdriving and has had very impressive runs, especially in the Craftsman Truck Series, where he has a better average finish than he's ever had on any track he's competed at more than once. However, the fact that he qualified 13th raises expectations. Although he'll likely someday lead at the track, it probably won't be until he lands a faster car, and he'll likely finish worse than he starts on Sunday.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller

Carson Hocevar is an interesting fantasy option at Martinsville Speedway this weekend. The No. 77 Chevrolet was fast on the time charts during practice on Saturday, but when interviewed about his car following practice, you could tell that Hocevar wasn't too happy with his car on the long run. However, Hocevar ranked fourth-fastest in 30-lap average, so the car can't be that bad. As far as track history goes, Hocevar posted a career-best finish of 17th here at Martinsville last season, and the Spire Motorsports teams seem to have a bit more speed this year. At $6,600 on DraftKings, Hocevar makes for an interesting DFS option on Sunday. He's cheap enough to take a risk on, and his 29th-place starting spot gives him great Place Differential upside. Martinsville is a track where a driver needs to be aggressive to make his way through the field, and Hocevar is one of the most aggressive in the Cup Series garage. Even though the Spire Motorsports driver doesn't seem too happy with his car this weekend, it's hard to ignore that long-run speed. Hocevar is a nice low-dollar DFS option this weekend. --Jordan McAbee

Carson Hocevar will start 15th for Sunday's Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The second-year Cup driver is the top qualifier of the three Spire Motorsports entries for this week's race. In his only previous start at Homestead, Hocevar collected positive Place Differential and finished ninth. In five races completed so far this year, Hocevar has two finishes of 13th or better but also two DNFs. In practice for Sunday's race, Hocevar ranked fifth in overall lap averages and displayed top-10 speeds in all other categories. Based on his equipment and practice speeds, Hocevar may be a sleeper to score a top-10 finish, making him a favorable and underrated DFS option for his salary ($7,500) for all formats.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller
