Carlos Ortiz Heads To Farmers Off Poor Outing
3 years agoCarlos Ortiz missed the cut last week at The American Express. The 30-year-old Mexican struggled at La Quinta, he losing 2.5 strokes tee-to-green and 2.8 strokes on approach. Ortiz had a nice fall swing. He finished in second place at the Mayakoba Classic. Ortiz shot five-under that Sunday to lose to Viktor Hovland. Heading into the Mayakoba, Ortiz gained strokes on approach in four straight tournaments. Unfortunately, he is not trending as nicely coming into this week. In his last three starts at Torrey Pines, Ortiz has two missed cuts and a 29th-place finish. While Ortiz will likely be low-owned, he may be a good fade in DFS.

Carlos Ortiz Not Recommended At Mexico Open
3 years agoThe Mexican golfer comes home to a familiar golf course, and considering all his struggles, it is hard to expect much from Carlos Ortiz this week. Too many errant shots and a ranking of 206 on strokes gained around the green are obstacles that will be tough to overcome. He can drain putts (4.1 per round), but with so many bad shots and poor accuracy, expecting a lot out of Ortiz isn't smart. His 71.56 scoring average only ranks 149th. A golfer will not contend often while approaching a 72. There are better options out there this week.

Carlos Ortiz Might Be One To Avoid This Week
3 years agoCarlos Ortiz does not arrive at TPC Sawgrass in good form. Last week at The Arnold Palmer Invitational, he lost strokes in every key metric. Overall, he lost 10.4 strokes total. Ortiz's best finish this year is a 33rd-place result at TPC Scottsdale. Ortiz also does not have good course history at The Players Championship. He has played this event twice, missing the cut both times. While Ortiz will be low-owned, it may be best to fade him based on his form and course history.

Carlos Ortiz Flying Under The Radar Ahead Of The API
3 years agoCarlos Ortiz has been hot with his putter. He has now gained strokes on the greens in three straight tournaments. Unfortunately for Ortiz, he has struggled from tee-to-green and around the greens. If he is going to contend at Bay Hill, he will need to improve in those metrics. Ortiz does have decent course history at this event. He has played at Bay Hill three times, resulting in a missed cut and a couple of top-30 finishes. Ortiz is projected to be low-owned and could be a nice sleeper option if he can align his tee-to-green game and his putting.

Carlos Ortiz Coming Off A Runner-Up Finish At The Mayokoba
3 years agoCarlos Ortiz starts the new year coming off three consecutive made cuts, capped off with a runner-up finish at the Mayakoba Classic, where he gained over 11 strokes total. He is in the top 10 in both strokes gained on approach and in strokes gained in ball-striking over his last 36 rounds in this field. He doesn't come to the American Express with much past success, though, as he has two missed cuts, a 48th-place finish and a 65th-place showing in his four trips to La Quinta. He can definitely be a fan of desert golf. Look no further than his fourth-place finish at the Waste Management in Phoenix last year.
