Carlos Martinez Earns a Save on Wednesday
6 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez picked up a save on Wednesday, tossing the last two innings of the Cardinals' 7-6 win over the Washington Nationals. He allowed two hits but no runs and struck out four. Martinez started the season off as a starting pitcher but injuries led him to several stints on the disabled list and the team brought him back as a reliever. With Bud Norris, the usual St. Louis closer, struggling lately, there's a chance Martinez works the ninth inning more often, although rookie Jordan Hicks is more likely to take over if Norris loses his job.
