Carlos Gomez Strong Sunday, Risky Going Forward
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Carlos Gomez picked a good weekend to show signs of life. He played in two of the three games against the Yankees and went 4-for-7 with a walk. He also scored a run and drove in two during the game on Sunday, Before this weekend, he had a combined one run scored and one RBI over his past nine games. The Rays recently discussed giving him more time off to keep himself less banged up. More bad news for Gomez owners is that even beyond the likely time-share with Johnny Field, the Rays also are exploring easing up their logjam in the infield by using the outfield. Joey Wendle recently played in the outfield and there are reports suggesting Daniel Robertson might get a chance occasionally. Gomez needs to start making a stronger case for playing time or else risk seeing it reduced to far less than he needs to be a consistent fantasy asset.
