Carl Edwards Jr. Agrees With Braves
4 years agoThe Atlanta Braves agreed to a minor league deal with free-agent relief pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. on Friday night. The 29-year-old right-hander helped the Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2016 and had a nice 3.03 ERA and 34 percent strikeout rate with the team from 2016-18. However, he started struggling in 2019 when he posted an 8.47 ERA in 22 appearances before he was traded to the San Diego Padres. The hard-throwing reliever gave up six runs in just 1 2/3 frames for San Diego before he was released. Edwards then joined the Seattle Mariners in 2020, but forearm issues limited him to only 4 2/3 innings over five outings. With relievers Mark Melancon and Shane Greene on the open market, the Braves are hoping that Edwards can get back to his previous form and give them some solid bullpen depth in 2021. Edwards can be ignored by fantasy managers.
