Cardinals Promote Drew Anderson From Practice Squad
5 years agoThe Arizona Cardinals promoted quarterback Drew Anderson from the practice squad on Saturday with rookie Kyler Murray (hamstring) questionable for Week 17 against the Rams. It's looking more likely now that Murray will not play in the meaningless season finale on Sunday, and if that's the case, backup Brett Hundley would get the start under center. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals placed tight end Darrell Daniels (biceps) on Injured Reserve. If Murray sits out this weekend, he'll end his rookie campaign with a 64.6 completion percentage, 3,397 yards passing, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He's added 544 rushing yards and four scores on the ground in what has been a successful rookie season, all things considered. He was inconsistent, as expected, mainly in the second half of the season. But Murray has laid the groundwork for a bigger year in 2020 in his second season with head coach Kliff Kingsbury. If Murray plays against LA, he'll be a risky QB2 at less than 100 percent. Arizona's pass-catchers should be downgraded if Hundley gets the start.
