Cardinals Could Make A Play For Bryce Harper
6 years agoWith money to spend in free agency this year, the St. Louis Cardinals could make a push in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes this winter. There is some impatience inside the organization since it's been three years since their last playoff appearance and five years since their last National League pennant. The team and chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. are "sending signals they are out to be a player," according to one industry source. The intend to explore Harper's market and how he might fit. They also could view free-agent third baseman Josh Donaldson or shortstop Manny Machado as fits. “We understand that there is an opportunity in this market,” general manager John Mozeliak continued, “and we have to be open-minded to see where that takes us.” Harper could set a record for a contract this offseason, even though he was somewhat of a disappointment in 2018. No matter where Harper lands, he's an MVP candidate and will be a first-round fantasy selection.
