Cardinals Announce Opening Day Rotation
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jack Flaherty will be the Opening Day starter against the Reds on April 1, and he will be followed in the rotation by Adam Wainwright, Carlos Martinez, Daniel Ponce de Leon and John Gant, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Flaherty, Wainwright and Martinez will have good matchups in the opening series, as they will take on a Reds offense that was tied for the sixth-highest strikeout rate (25.2 percent) and had the worst average (.212) last season. Ponce De Leon and Gant will also have good matchups in Games 1 and 2 against the Marlins, who posted a team .384 SLG (sixth-worst in the majors) and 24.8 percent strikeout rate (ninth-highest in the majors). Flaherty is the only pitcher in the St. Louis rotation being drafted in all formats at ADP 32, which makes the other four Cardinals starters solid streaming options in the first week of the season.
