Cardale Jones Struggles In Preseason Opener
6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers backup quarterback Cardale Jones wasn't the backup in the team's first preseason game as he was tasked with taking the first snaps under center. Unfortunately, he did not look good in the start. Jones went 6-for-12 for just 50 yards before he was replaced and badly upstaged by Geno Smith. Head coach Anthony Lynn said Jones was given the start because he needs to be given a fair shot to show what he can do and even listed both players as co-backups on the team's unofficial depth chart, but Smith looked dramatically better than Jones did in this first game. The competition is still officially even, but the job looks like it should easily be won by Smith.
