6 years agoCarolina Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said that the organization had "good talks" with the representation of defenseman Justin Faulk on a contract extension at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and the two sides plan to continue talking. "If he stays on for (the) last year of (his) contract we're OK with that," Waddell said, adding that there is no urgency to get a deal done. Faulk is the cornerstone of the defenseman corps along with Dougie Hamilton, and the fan favorite has been with the organization since going No. 37 overall in the second round of the 2010 draft. He has 11 or more goals in four of the past five seasons and is a decent fantasy option in many pools heading into 2019-20, especially if Carolina contends again and his plus/minus rating continues to be improved.--Daniel Dobish

3 months agoSt. Louis Blues defenseman Justin Faulk (upper body) is a game-time decision for Friday's tilt against Ottawa. He re-aggravated an upper-body injury in Tuesday's Winter Classic against Chicago and didn't practice on Thursday. Per Lou Korac of The Hockey News, Faulk was back on the ice for Friday's optional morning skate. This suggests that he may be able to play against the Senators. Faulk had an outstanding game on Tuesday, posting three points. He's had 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) in 37 games across the campaign. Scott Perunovich, who has recorded six points (two goals, four assists) in 22 games, will play instead of Faulk if he is ruled out.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

4 months agoSt. Louis Blues defenseman Justin Faulk (upper body) will return to action on Saturday against Edmonton. He has been sidelined for two games with an upper-body injury. Faulk has generated assists in each of his last two appearances, but his work on the offensive end has been lacking for most of the campaign. In 25 outings, Faulk has contributed one goal and six assists. This matchup has previously suited Faulk, who has bagged at least a point in five of his last seven appearances against the Oilers. Pierre-Olivier Joseph will come out of the lineup to accommodate Faulk's return.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

12 months agoSt. Louis Blues defenseman Justin Faulk will miss the remainder of the season due to an upper-body injury. Faulk was injured in the second period of a 3-2 overtime loss to the Sharks on Saturday following an altercation with Sharks forward Luke Kunin. He missed a game against the Ducks on Sunday. "I think he's week to week. We want to be cautious with his injury," St. Louis coach Drew Bannister said after practice on Tuesday. Even if this was two months ago, it would still be week to week with him. It is what it is. The veteran has tallied two goals and 30 points in 60 games on the season after posting 11 goals and a career-high 50 points across 82 games a season ago. The Blues sit five points back of the Golden Knights for the second and final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference but Vegas holds a game in hand.--Brenton Kemp

1 year agoSt. Louis Blues defenseman Justin Faulk sustained an upper-body injury in Saturday's contest against San Jose. He didn't appear for the third period after being involved in a fight with San Jose's Luke Kunin. Faulk racked up 17 penalty minutes in the contest. He also had three shots, one block, and one hit across 13:20 of action. The 32-year-old has averaged 0.5 points per game, notching two goals and 28 assists in 60 outings. There are also 83 hits and 104 blocks on his account, so Faulk would be missed at both ends of the ice if he's out for a stretch.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
