Cameron Smith Worth A Shot At TPC River Highlands
3 years agoDue to poor course history and shoddy recent form, Cameron Smith is not a player that most fantasy managers will instantly gravitate to this week. With that being said, it's worth noting that Smith missed the cut at the U.S. Open on the number while losing six strokes around the green. That is certainly an anomaly, as the Australian possesses one of the best short games in the world, and he still ranks 26th in strokes gained around the green over his last 36 rounds despite the debacle at Torrey Pines. Smith gained 2.9 strokes on approach last week as well, good for his best approach week in over four months. If the three-time PGA Tour winner can continue to trend positively with his irons, he will play a factor this week. As far as the course history goes, while Smith has not performed well at TPC River Highlands, he boasts a solid resume on short, corollary Pete Dye courses. He has already finished ninth at Harbour Town and 17th at TPC Sawgrass this year. Smith is a great leverage play this week.
