Cameron Smith Gives Colonial Country Club a Second Try
7 years agoAfter Cameron Smith's blistering start to begin the season, he has slightly regressed in all facets the past couple of weeks. In his last two starts, he has a missed cut and a T32 finish. The sample size is too short to take any real notice of potential slipping in Smith's game, but there are a couple of concerns statistically. In his last 24 rounds compared to the field, Smith does not rank in the top 30 in strokes gained approach, strokes gained scrambling, good-drive percentage, par-four scoring or strokes gained off the tee. All of these stats appear to be pertinent to having success at Colonial Country Club. Last year at this venue, Smith shot an opening-round six-over 76, which all but assured he wouldn't be around for the weekend. He followed up with a one-under 69 on Friday, but it was too little too late. Due to recent form, Smith should be well under 10 percent owned this week. He makes for a risky cash-game play but is a possible contrarian pick with upside in GPPs.
