3 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate could be in line for an expanded role in Week 10 against Washington. Brate has played at least 55 percent of the snaps while seeing four targets in each of the last three weeks and could see an even bigger role with Rob Gronkowski (back) set to miss the game. The veteran tight end faces a Washington defense that has surrendered the ninth-most yards to tight ends. Brate profiles as a DFS dart throw in week 10.--Tim Capurso

2 years agoThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to release tight end Cameron Brate in the coming days, according to a source. Brate has played nine seasons in Tampa and has a salary cap hit of around $5 million. He had a good run with the team in his nine seasons with 273 catches on 422 targets for 2,857 yards and 33 touchdowns, but he had only 20 receptions for 174 yards and no touchdowns in 11 games for the team in 2022. The 31-year-old's release will clear $2.03 million this year and will leave behind $2.955 million in dead money. Unless Rob Gronkowski comes out of retirement to rejoin the team, which is highly unlikely now that quarterback Tom Brady is retired, the Bucs figure to roll with impressive youngster Cade Otton as their primary pass-catching tight end in 2023.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers could cut tight end Cameron Brate this offseason, as they are projected over the salary cap and will look to make cuts for cap purposes. By cutting Brate, the Bucs would save $2 million in cap space. Running back Leonard Fournette, kicker Ryan Succop, and left tackle Donovan Smith could also be cap casualties. Brate caught 20 passes for 170 yards over 11 games in 2022. He took a backseat to rookie Cade Otton, who became Tampa Bay's top pass-catching tight end in 2022. Brate could provide tight end depth and a reliable target for another team if he does become a cap casualty this offseason.--Brad Camara - RotoBaller

2 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate scored his first touchdown of the season in the 31-14 wild-card loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. Brate had just one catch on three targets for an eight-yard touchdown. Fantasy managers were expecting much more from the 31-year-old in 2022 with Rob Gronkowski retired, but Brate wasn't much of a factor and rookie Cade Otton was a much bigger part of the passing attack. In 11 regular season games, Brate finished with 20 receptions on 38 targets for just 174 yards and no touchdowns. It was the first regular season that he failed to find the end zone. With Otton likely to continue developing, the Buccaneers may decide to move on from Brate this offseason.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate is a healthy scratch and will not play in Week 17 in a big divisional showdown against the Carolina Panthers. Brate's disappointing 2022 continues after he played just eight offensive snaps in last week's overtime win over the Arizona Cardinals. He was expected to be a much bigger part of Tampa's offense this year with no Rob Gronkowski around, but that hasn't worked out for him. The 31-year-old hasn't scored a single touchdown and has secured 20 of his 38 targets for 174 yards in 10 games played (one start). With Brate inactive this weekend, rookie Cade Otton has a prime opportunity to come through for fantasy managers brave enough to stream him against Carolina.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
