Cam Smith Could Make Opening Day Roster
1 month agoHouston Astros third base prospect Cam Smith could make the Opening Day roster. The Astros acquired Cam Smith, Isaac Paredes and Hayden Wesneski from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for outfielder Kyle Tucker earlier in the offseason. Through the early part of spring training, the former 14th overall pick has been very productive holding a .636/.733/.1.364 slash line with two home runs, a triple, seven RBI, and a 4:1 BB:K ratio. Even though Smith only has 32 games of MiLB experience as he was drafted from last year's rookie class, the Astros could use additional depth in their infield if Christian Walker (oblique) is not ready for Opening Day. Walker underwent an MRI earlier this week and appears to have avoided a significant injury but could still miss time. However, if Smith begins his 2025 campaign at Triple-A, fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development as he could push for an early-season MLB debut given his strong play at spring training.
