Cam Newton Still Dealing With Shoulder Pain
6 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) is surprised that he's still dealing with pain in his surgically repaired right shoulder, and he's not ruling out having another operation after the season. Newton is confident he'll be "ready to go" on Sunday against the Browns, but head coach Ron Rivera is being more cautious. Newton was pulled in favor of backup Taylor Heinicke last week for a Hail Mary pass on the final play of the loss because the coaches didn't think Newton's arm was strong enough. Newton didn't throw in Wednesday's practice and didn't throw for the second straight day in the portion open to the media on Thursday. The shoulder is unlikely to keep Newton from playing in the final four games of this season, but an offseason surgery could seriously jeopardize the start of his 2019 season. Newton will be a QB1 in Week 14 against the Browns despite his nagging shoulder issues.
