5 years agoMarlins starting pitcher Caleb Smith was in top form on Tuesday, shutting down the Chicago White Sox for seven innings, and continues to have a breakout year, making his fourth start since missing a month with left hip inflammation. Smith retired the first 17 batters he faced, finally yielding perfection with two outs in the sixth inning, walking back to back batters before giving up an RBI groundball single to Jon Jay. The 27-year-old right-hander is now 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA since returning from injury and will carry a 30.6% K-rate into his next start, a home tilt against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
