Cal Quantrill Sharp In First Career Win Over Blue Jays
6 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Cal Quantrill had a good day at the office Saturday versus his hometown Toronto Blue Jays squad. Other than being bit by the long ball for the only two hits against him, he struck out nine batters over six innings while issuing two walks. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. tagged him for a solo shot in the second inning, and Justin Smoak victimized him in the fourth for a two-run tater, but he was otherwise lights out against this subpar lineup. The Friar's offense backed Quantrill for 19 runs earning him his first win in the majors. For now, the right-hander is a streaming option at best in mixed leagues and is a fringe starter in NL-only formats. Quantrill will be worth a look as a streamer in another plus matchup next week when the anemic Marlins offense comes to town.
