Cal Quantrill Debuting Wednesday Against Braves
6 years agoPer sources, San Diego Padres rookie pitcher Cal Quantrill will debut Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves. The Padres No. 12 prospect will make a spot start in his first taste of the big leagues to alleviate the innings pressure on the team’s young rotation. Quantrill, a former eighth overall pick, had posted a 4.68 ERA (4.01 FIP) through five starts in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. 2080 Baseball scouts the 24-year-old as an immediate backend starter with a low-90s heater and well-rounded, three-pitch arsenal. It’s uncertain how the Friars will use him after Wednesday but he could stick around as a sixth starter or bullpen arm if he performs well. He should only be deployed in fantasy as a desperation streamer or DFS punt.
