Cade Horton Likely Done For The Year
3 months agoChicago Cubs right-hander Cade Horton (lat), the team's top pitching prospect and the 17th overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, suffered a setback in his rehab from a right-lat strain. The expectation is that he will get back to throwing, but given where we are at in the calendar, the 22-year-old getting back to competitive action before the end of the minor-league season would be difficult. The former first-rounder in 2022 was promoted from Double-A Tennessee to Triple-A Iowa on April 30 after he had a 1.10 ERA in four starts with the Smokies with 18 K's in 16 1/3 innings. In his five starts with Iowa, though, he had a 7.50 ERA in 18 innings before going on the seven-day injured list on May 31. Horton was diagnosed with a right-lat strain on June 4 and was shut down from throwing for a month. In 2023, Horton had a 2.65 ERA and 117 K's over 88 1/3 innings in 21 starts for Single-A Myrtle Beach, High-A South Bend and Tennessee.
