C.J. Cron Struggling To Open The Season
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays first baseman C.J. Cron is off to a slow start after the first five games of the season. He has gone 2-for-12 to start the season with six strikeouts. He finally scored his first run Tuesday against the Yankees in Tampa Bay's fifth game. He was benched for back-to-back games against consecutive right-handers. Cron offers tempting power and many got excited when manager Kevin Cash said Cron would play "a lot." It is too soon to give up on Cron, but currently we are seeing far more free-swinging flaws than we are his power upside. It is worth noting that the vast majority of his production in 2017 came in the second half of the season.
