C.J. Cron And Brad Miller Situation At First Base Given More Explaination
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash revealed some more about his plan for first base playing time in the regular season. Lefthanded C.J. Cron and righthanded Brad Miller will split time. However, it was noted that it will not be a strict platoon because they like Cron so much that they want to see him get a lot of playing time. It has been noted previously that Miller could play some second base on certain occasions to get both of their bats in the lineup. Cron is an interesting player in deep leagues in terms of potential. Cron had a .248 batting average, 16 home runs and 56 RBI for the season but hit 14 of his home runs and drove in 42 of his runs in the second half. With additional playing time and a continuation of his second half, there could be some profit for Cron from his current draft spot. Miller could see time at first base and second base, depending on the circumstances that day. Either way, he is most likely a deep league or AL-only type option that merely has the temptation of the specter of a return to his 30 home runs of 2016.
