C.J. Beathard Fearless In 2018 Debut
6 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard completed 23-of-37 passes for 298 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He also added 19 yards on seven rushes. Beathard’s big play was an 82-yard touchdown strike to tight end George Kittle as the Niners nearly upset the heavily-favored Bolts. Encouragingly, Beathard wasn’t a disaster but his picks were costly, one off a deflection in the red zone and another in the final minutes that effectively ended the game. Aside from Kittle, Beathard spread the rock, finding eight different receivers. This development likely bodes unfavorably for all Niners pass catchers aside from Kittle. Beathard was hammered on a late-game scramble but appeared fine after gathering himself. He will be a risky QB2 when the Niners host the winless Arizona Cardinals in Week 5.
