Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. Beathard apparently picked up a shoulder injury after replacing Trevor Lawrence (ankle) in Monday night's overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Lawrence isn't being ruled out for the Week 14 contest against the Cleveland Browns, but he's likely to sit out following a high-ankle sprain on Monday night. The 30-year-old Beathard went 12-for-14 for 77 yards and led the team to a game-tying field-goal drive to send the game to overtime on Monday. In six years in the NFL, he's appeared in 30 games and made 12 starts, completing 59.5% of his passes with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. If he makes his first start since 2020 this weekend, he'll be a desperation low-end QB2 in superflex leagues against a potent Browns defense.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Tuesday that they have released quarterback C.J. Beathard (groin) with an injury settlement. Beathard was injured in the team's second preseason game and was released after losing the backup competition to former New England Patriots QB Mac Jones. Jones will now begin the 2024 regular season as the primary backup to starter Trevor Lawrence. The 30-year-old Beathard will now look for work as a veteran backup somewhere else, as long as he's healthy. Originally a third-round selection of the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 out of Iowa, Beathard is in his sixth NFL season. He spent the last three seasons in Jacksonville, going 49-for-66 (74.2 completion percentage) with 417 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception in only 13 games played (one start).--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard (groin) suffered a groin injury in Saturday's preseason contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was ruled out for the rest of the game. Beathard played the entire third quarter after following Mac Jones in the exhibition contest and finished 5-for-7 for 40 yards with 10 rushing yards on two carries. The 30-year-old veteran could lose out on the competition for the backup job behind Trevor Lawrence if his groin injury is serious enough to sideline him for the preseason finale next week against the Atlanta Falcons. In Saturday's game, Jones, the former New England Patriots signal-caller, went 16-for-23 for 210 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 14 yards on six carries. Given Beathard's injury, Jones appears to be in a good spot to win the backup job in his first year in Jacksonville.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard threw for 178 yards off 17-for-24 passing in Sunday's shutout win over the Carolina Panthers. He added three carries for 24 yards. The signal-caller didn't throw a touchdown pass. However, Beathard at least did enough to help the Jags snap a four-game losing streak. Jacksonville needs a win over the Titans in Week 18 to lock up a postseason berth. There's a chance Trevor Lawrence (shoulder) could be back, meaning Beathard will head back to the bench. Still, fantasy managers can't trust either quarterback, so Lawrence's availability versus the Titans won't mean a thing either way.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard faces the Carolina Panthers in a Week 17 matchup. QB1 Trevor Lawrence (shoulder) has been dealing with a new injury every week it seems, and was ruled out on Friday giving Beathard the start. While the career backup has filled in admirably thus far when Lawrence was forced out of games, the matchup this week is one of the least favorable for opposing quarterbacks. Carolina ranks 3rd against the position in fantasy points and passing yards allowed, and tied for fourth in touchdowns conceded. The Panthers have one of the weakest run defenses in the game which likely means a heavy dose of Travis Etienne, putting Beathard squarely off the fantasy radar this Sunday.--Ryan J. Goodman
