4 years agoBubba Watson will be on the quest for his third green jacket this week at Augusta. Watson has played fairly well this season with a few top-10 finishes in 10 starts. He ranks 17th in strokes gained off the tee and 33rd in strokes gained approaching the green. His ball-striking ability is a major reason why he has found success at Augusta in the past. However, his putting will need to be better if he wants to secure a third Masters championship. Watson's familiarity with the course and past success should give him a good opportunity to compete, but poor putting could hinder him from posting great scores. --Connor Wege

3 years agoBubba Watson has a winning match-play record of 10-6-5 at Austin Country Club. Although Watson has not been playing well lately, he has proven that his history at specific courses or events is one of his more reliable predictors of success. Watson has to outscore Webb Simpson, Abraham Ancer and Brian Harman to emerge from his group. All four golfers in this group have struggled to achieve any consistent results over the last 24 rounds, making it possible for anyone to emerge as the winner of this group.--Byron Lindeque

3 years agoBubba Watson has finished T13 and T4 in his last two Valspar Championships. Watson's course history is often a better predictor of success than his recent form. He is one of the most eccentric golfers on tour, shaping shots in ways that most golfers cannot replicate. Watson seems to feel comfortable around Innisbrook, gaining significantly off the tee in his last five appearances there. Other than his driver, it is tough to predict what aspect of his game will prevail this week. However, if Watson has good course history, he usually scores well, leaning on any facet of his game that makes sense to him.--Byron Lindeque

3 years agoBubba Watson leans on his driver to gain most of his strokes on the field. He also has one of the stronger course histories on tour, with success at certain courses being a lot more predictable than the average tour pro. Watson's last two starts were a missed cut at The Genesis Invitational and a T14 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, both courses he has typically thrived at. TPC Sawgrass presents a peculiar scenario, as he's never finished better than T37 in the eight cuts he has made at The Players. With a top-40 as his ceiling here, avoid Watson this week.--Byron Lindeque

3 years agoBubba Watson comes into the Genesis Invitational off a successful start to the season at the Waste Management Phoenix Open last week. In that event, Watson was fantastic on approach, gaining nearly two full strokes. He gained over two full strokes from tee to green as well, showing his game is in great form, even in his first PGA Tour event of the season. Watson now returns to a place he has had incredible success, but some failure as well. A three-time winner of the event in 2014, 2016 and 2018, Watson knows what it takes to get a win at Riviera. However, Watson has missed his last two cuts at Genesis, and missed a total of five in his career. It is boom-or-bust for Watson this week, but after his solid week last week, Watson should be more boom than bust in LA.--Kasey Kuhrts - RotoBaller
