Bubba Wallace on Pole at Darlington with Playoffs on the Line
3 months agoBubba Wallace is fighting for his postseason life this weekend at Darlington Raceway, as he enters the Cook Out Southern 500 at a 21-point deficit to the playoff cutline. While it's not impossible for Bubba to make the postseason on points this year, a win on Sunday night would guarantee a playoff spot--as long as he doesn't intentionally dump two of his competitors like Austin Dillon did at Richmond a few weeks back. Bubba got off to a great start on Saturday, as he put his No. 23 Toyota on the pole in qualifying with a time of 29.421 seconds, barely edging out Carson Hocevar's 29.445-second lap. Bubba has been strong at Darlington in the Next Gen car, with four straight top-10 finishes and five top-10 Stage results over the last 10 possible. In DFS, Wallace makes for an interesting option since he's on the pole. Assuming he can lead the early portion of this race, it won't take much for Bubba to hit value at his $7,700 salary if he can stay in the top 10 by the end of it.
